A late Victorian weighted Staunton chess set, attributed to F. H. Ayres of London, circa 1890-1900.
The complete set of 32 boxwood and ebonised chessmen with an 8 cm king, carved knights and weighted green-baize bases, the king-side knights and rooks distinguished by impressed crown marks, contained in a period green-baize-lined wooden box.
