A Louis Comfort Tiffany 19th century Favrile opalescent bud vase on a gilt metal stand. Signed L.C.T. and numbered 18225. Circa 1880.

Louis Comfort Tiffany's Favrile glass revolutionised decorative arts at the turn of the twentieth century. Introduced in the 1890s, Favrile featured richly iridescent surfaces created by mixing metallic oxides into molten glass, producing colour from within rather than applied finishes. Each piece was hand blown, ensuring unique hues, ripples, and textures inspired by nature - feathers, shells, flowers, and water.

Tiffany embraced asymmetry and organic forms, aligning with Art Nouveau ideals. Favrile glass appeared in vases, lampshades, mosaics, and architectural panels, elevating glass to fine art. Its luminous depth and craftsmanship remain influential and highly collectible today among museums, collectors, and designers.
