A striking pair of 19th-century Gothic Revival carved limestone architectural corbels, each modelled as a crouching winged mythical beast. The boldly carved creatures have expressive leonine heads, feathered wings and curling tails, with deeply worked foliate detail typical of medieval-inspired architectural decoration.

Probably English and dating to the second half of the 19th century, the pair were likely originally incorporated into a church, chapel or substantial Gothic Revival building. Now wonderfully decorative as sculptural objects in their own right, they would make an impressive addition to an interior, garden room or architectural collection.
