A harlequin set of eight 19th century Bohemian cameo glass goblets in bright colours, hand-painted with floral motifs, circa 1870.

Here's a 100-word piece:

Bohemian cameo glass emerged in the late nineteenth century in the glassmaking regions of Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic.

Inspired by the success of French makers such as Émile Gallé and Daum Nancy, Bohemian workshops developed their own distinctive style. Artisans created cameo glass by layering coloured glass and then carefully acid-etching or wheel-carving away the outer layers to reveal contrasting designs beneath. Popular motifs included flowers, woodland scenes, and Art Nouveau patterns.

Renowned firms such as Harrach and Moser helped establish Bohemian cameo glass as a highly prized decorative art, admired for its craftsmanship and rich colouring.
