A charming and finely made 18ct yellow-gold leaf brooch, set with a vividly enamelled ladybird and attributed to Cartier, Paris, circa 1960. The stylised leaf has a beautifully naturalistic form, its finely textured gold surface lending depth and movement to the design, while the small enamel ladybird provides a delightful note of colour and character.
Jewels inspired by the natural world were a signature of mid-century French design, and this piece has the wit, refinement, and understated luxury associated with Cartier's work of the period.
