A truly fabulous mid-century Italian cockatoo brooch, crafted in luxurious 18ct gold and dating from around 1960. Bold, sculptural and wonderfully expressive, this exceptional jewel captures the glamour and playful sophistication of Italian design from the period.
Finely modelled in substantial 18ct gold, the cockatoo is shown perched proudly on a textured branch, its elegant form brought vividly to life with translucent enamels in saturated ruby red, emerald green, sunny yellow and deep cobalt blue. The colours shimmer beautifully against the warm gold ground, creating a jewel with remarkable depth and character.
The bird's extravagant swept crest is its crowning glory: a graduated row of sparkling diamonds follows its dramatic curve, lending light and movement to the design. Its large, characterful eye is delicately picked out in blue and yellow enamel, giving the cockatoo an almost animated presence.
