Kutani porcelain is a traditional Japanese ceramic ware that originated in the early 17th century in Kutani, Ishikawa Prefecture. Known for its bold colors and intricate designs, Kutani ware typically features vibrant overglaze enamels in red, green, yellow, purple, and blue. Classic motifs include landscapes, birds, flowers, and scenes from Japanese folklore.
Early Kutani pieces, known as "Ko-Kutani," are especially prized for their artistic and historical value. Revived in the 19th century, Kutani porcelain remains a celebrated craft, blending artistry with functionality. Today, it continues to be handmade by skilled artisans, symbolising Japan's rich ceramic heritage and aesthetic tradition.
